Admission Procedure for Diploma Courses

Eligibility for Admission:

 (a) Minimum qualification : Must have passed Higher Secondary Course (+2) or its equivalent and secured not less than 50% marks (40% for SC/ST(Origin)/OBC) in Part-III subjects - Physics, Chemistry & Biology (or) Physics, Chemistry, Botany & Zoology (or) Physics, Foundation Science & Medical Laboratory Assistant Course (or) Chemistry, Foundation Science & Nursing course and English as one of the compulsory subjects

  (b) Nationality : A candidate seeking admission should be an Indian National. However, French Nationals residing in the Pondicherry UT and covered by the terms of the Treaty of Cession shall be treated on par with Indian Nationals for the purpose of admission.

  (c) Age Limit : The candidates should have completed 17 years of age and should not be more than 25 years of age. The age limit will be calculated as on December, 2006. For SC/ST (Origin) candidates, the upper age limit is relaxable up to 5 years and up to 3 years for OBC.

  (d) Pondicherry UT Candidates: Candidates who are residents of Pondicherry UT are eligible for admission to the courses. A candidate is considered to be of Pondicherry Resident (Pondicherry UT Candidate) provided he/she is an Indian National and satisfies at least one of the following criteria.

    1. Those candidates or whose parents have been residing continuously in the Pondicherry UT at least for 5 years as on first of June 2006.

    2. Those who have passed SSLC / HSC or any other public examination and for that purpose had undergone academic studies immediately preceding the qualifying examination (including the year of the qualifying examination) in recognized educational institution(s) located in Pondicherry UT and having resided in Pondicherry UT for 5 years continuously during that period.

    3. Children of Central / State Government Servants / Defence Personnel/ Central Paramilitary Forces/Employees of Public Sector Undertakings wholly or substantially run either by the Central Government of by the Pondicherry UT administration posted and serving in the Pondicherry UT for at least a minimum period of one year prior to the last date of submission of application.

   4. Children of natives of the Pondicherry UT who have declared any place in the Pondicherry UT as their hometown and so certified by their respective Heads of Office. In such case, Nativity Certificate in the prescribed format has to be enclosed along with the admission application (Form E).

   5. Children of Defence Personnel who were killed or disabled in action and children of Central Government Servants / Pondicherry UT Government Servants / Defence Personnel / Employees of Public Sector undertakings as referred in category (3) who died while in service in Pondicherry UT.

   6. French Nationals residing in Pondicherry UT and covered by the terms of the Treaty of Cession shall be treated on par with the candidates who produce the prescribed Pondicherry UT residence certificate. Such French Nationals will not be required to produce residence certificate, instead they should produce a certificate of registration issued for this purpose from the French Consulate at Pondicherry.


Selection Procedure for Admission:

    (a) Ranking of Candidates : The selection of candidates for admission to all diploma courses will be based on the merit list. Ranking of the candidates will be done based on the merit marks (rounded off to three decimal places) obtained by them in the part III subjects of Higher Secondary Examination.

    (b) Display of merit list : The merit lists will be displayed on the notice board at the institute campus. No separate announcement will be made in the newspapers.

    Counselling for admission : Counselling for all the diploma courses will be conducted at the institute campus. Candidates shall be called for Counselling as per their merit through call letters indicating the date and time of Counselling. No change of date/time of Counselling is allowed. The institute will not be responsible for any postal delays. Counselling will not be done in the absence of the candidate. Candidates who do not attend the Counselling in the specified date and time have to forego the claim of admission.

    (c) Verification of original certificate : Candidates called shall be required to submit all the certificates in original for verification at the time of Counselling. Candidates who fail to produce the required certificate in original shall not be considered. However if a candidate has deposited the original certificates to an institution where he/she has already been admitted, a letter to that effect issued by the head of the institution should be produced. In such cases only the attested copies of certificates will be accepted for verification.

The original documents submitted by the candidates to be admitted shall be returned only after completion of the course. The candidates are advised to take enough number of photocopies of the certificates before submitting the originals for verification during Counselling.

    (d) Certificates required to be furnished along with the application:

The following certificates / attested photo copies should be submitted along with the application. All photo copies shall be duly attested with official seal.

1. Nationality certificate (in original) from the competent authority as in the application form Annexure (Form A).

2. Caste Certificate (in original) from the Competent Authority as in the application form Annexure (Form B) for those applying for the seats reserved for SC/ST (Origin)/MBC/OBC.

3. Residence Certificate (in original) and/or certificate from Employer of Parent (in original) from the competent authority as in the Annexure (Form D or E).

4. Statement of marks of qualifying examination (Attested Photo copy)

5. Birth certificate/First page of SSLC Book (Attested Photo copy)
6. Transfer Certificate of Higher Secondary Course issued by the Head of Educational Institution last studied. (Attested Photo copy)

7. Conduct Certificate issued by the Head of Educational Institution last studied. (Attested Photo copy)

The originals of certificates of all attested photocopies should be submitted at the time of counselling. All certificates need to be recent.

Fees:

(i) Fees payable to the Mother Theresa Postgraduate and Research Institute of Health Sciences, Pondicherry.

All the selected candidates are required to remit the following fees -

 Fees must be paid at the time of admission and at the beginning of each semester / academic year in cash at the Office of the Institute. The fees paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances. The fees payable to this Institute are subject to periodic revision.

 (ii) Fees payable to the Board of Medical Education:

All the students are required to remit the Examination fees, etc., as prescribed by the Board of Medical Education, Pondicherry.
